Surrounded by historic almshouses, this private enclave offers a peaceful escape from the bustle of everyday life.

Dating back to 1437, Worrell Chapel is one of Exeter’s most remarkable hidden treasures. 

Lovingly restored during the Victorian era, the chapel retains its magnificent architectural character, creating a setting filled with warmth, elegance and timeless romance.

From the soaring timber roof and beautiful stained glass to the peaceful atmosphere that fills the space, every detail reflects generations of history while providing a beautiful backdrop for modern celebrations.

Conveniently located in the centre of Exeter, the chapel is easily reached by road and rail, with excellent nearby parking and a wide selection of hotels for family and guests.

Worrell Chapel was created by some of England's finest craftsmen. Augustus Pugin designed the stained glass windows as head of the famous Hardman Glass Studios. Pugin also designed the Elizabeth Tower and his windows are also in the Houses of Parliament.

Harry Hems carved the timber and stone work including the forty curved timber trusses. His studio was turned into "Harry's restaurant", near John Lewis Exeter. 

The bronze bells were cast by Whitechapel Foundry who also cast the Big Ben's Great Bell.

Worrell Chapel is lovingly cared for by the Worrell Trust, whose mission is to preserve this remarkable historic building for future generations.

Every wedding celebrated here contributes directly to the ongoing restoration and conservation of the chapel, allowing couples to become part of its continuing story and helping ensure its beauty endures for centuries to come.

After finding one another later in life, Neil and Laurie chose the chapel for their own celebrant-led wedding in 2026. 

Surrounded by family and friends, they celebrated with a ceremony, elegant dining and dancing within the very spaces they now share with others.

That unforgettable day revealed the chapel’s true potential: an intimate venue where every wedding feels deeply personal, filled with history, joy and lasting memories.

Today, they are delighted to welcome couples to create their own chapter within this extraordinary place—celebrating love in a venue that has witnessed generations of happiness and history for almost 600 years.

Worrell Chapel launches in 2027 after almost a century of being unused. 

Due to the historic nature of the building we have limited availability. We only allow one FULL wedding and reception per month so if interested an early enquiry is recommended.

The main stone arch in the Chapel dates from 1437. It has witnessed twenty-nine Kings and Queens of England, including King Charles III, inaugurated in 2022.
